The Dark Crystal is easily in the sort list of my favorite movies. The lore and visual story telling is just so solid and the customes and practical effects were insanely transformative. Of course, most of the characters were puppets, but even the puppets were done very well.
Aughra stood out as a particularly creepy figure to me as a kid but her orrery really inspired me.
The fabric arts in The Dark Crystal are very detailed. Compare what is on screen to what was in the concept sketches and you start to realize that everything was custom made and designed.
