Netflix’s futuristic thriller “I am Mother” has a stunning visual presentation. Right off the bat from the trailer, you’re probably wondering exactly what mix of practical rigging and CGI brings these robots to life. Well, Adam Savage of TESTED visited Weta, and got to see the suit up close. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in Adam’s interview that you couldn’t gather from the preview.
I really would have loved to see more up-close and personal footage of the suite. I’m curious about how they’ve constructed a few of those bits, and it seemed like they were actively avoiding up-close shots. Maybe the TESTED crew was holding onto that for members, maybe Weta asked them not-to.
My takeway from this video is that the crew was skilled and determined to pull this off. The physical acting within that suit is amazing and the construction of the suit itself just looks right. Luke hopper has some mad skills in making those movements look robotic, when he puts that final head piece on, he really seems to just transform.
