Easily the most widely known movie robot, Robby has gone to auction and sold for $5.3 million dollars.
Depending on when you were introduced to Robby, you might know him from different things. My mind immediately jumps to the tv show Lost in Space, but Robby actually got his start on the 1956 movie Forbidden Planet.
This suit, which was actually a huge step forward in robot costumes appeared on tons of shows. He was apparently even on the Adams Family, though I can’t find a clip of that. The $5.3M price tag makes this the 2nd most valuable prop in history, right behind Marilyn Monroe’s “subway” dress from the 7 year itch for $5.5M.
