The Grue is a site that celebrates practical effects and prop design.
Started in 2017 by Caleb Kraft, Senior Editor for Make Magazine and former Senior Editor from Hackaday.
I kept finding myself obsessing over practical effects construction and use. I have also always been extremely drawn to cosplay even though I have very little interest in the anime or games it is often based off of. After scouring the web, I wasn’t able to find much in the way of an outlet that supplied information on how these effects were pulled of, how things were constructed, or the people behind them. There were traces in Make Magazine, enthralling threads on the RPF forums, and now some incredible videos on TESTED.com but I really wanted a place that focused on these topics. So, The Grue was born.
