Niklaas Charles, a “fabricator and creative technologist ” showed off this intriguing animatronic eye on twitter recently. While the mechanism is somewhat of what you’d think of as standard, the added flare of the fiber optic lights in the eye really make it pop!

The paint job he did on the eyeball makes it especially hard to pin down exactly what is going on. Such a neat effect.
