Try Not To Scream When You See This Demo Of Practical Monster Prosthetics

This incredible monster popped up on Reddit and I couldn’t help but do a little digging. This thing is super impressive and I keep finding new things about it as I watch. For example, the first few views I didn’t even notice the skinned faces hanging from his belt!

Commenter JokersQuinn clued us in a bit to the story

This piece was done for Cinema makeup school at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. The model is Johnny Leftwich and he has been doing character acting / monster modeling for the last for years. She has been getting some chairs you’re acting advice from the great Doug Jones as well.

Here is a pic with him outta makeup when he was just doing special effects makeup himself and right before he dipped his toe into the water Witt character acting. Kiddo and the pic is my daughter at Age 4.

and commenter Jobethcasy tells us where we can see this thing in action on the screen

It’s from the YouTube red show Escape the night season 2 He’s called the devourer Appearing in episodes 8/9/10

I checked out the show trailer. You can catch a peek of this ghoul in the closing flash

While the show itself doesn’t really appeal to me, I can’t help but think of how fun it would be to have been creating that set and all those props!

I dug around a bit and managed to find a progress shot from the comiccon event where the gif at the top of the post came from. We can see here, the artist Wen Zheng doing the incredible work of applying the prosthetic and blending everything so it looks alive. just incredible. Go check out the entire gallery on OCRegister.com for more pictures from the event.
